Why fine art wedding photography is so special
We’ve all read the phrase ‘fine art wedding photographer’ thrown about in magazines, blogs and websites and that made me think what does it actually mean for the couple investing in a fine art wedding photographer?
For me it’s about being an artist first and foremost and everything else you do flows out from that. It’s about having your own vision and not being scared to express that. Yes, I photograph weddings – because I love document them and enjoy the feeling they give me. There is nothing more fulfilling than knowing I’m capturing one of the most important days a couple are ever going to experience together. And knowing and believing I’m going to capture it as well as I know I’m going to.
Each photograph is carefully thought out in terms composition and lighting to create a compelling and dramatic photograph. These elements combine to creative emotionally charged and creative images that have depth and tell a story. Back in the studio I process the photographs with unique and individual tones and finish to enhance the images to create beautiful creative images.
Being an artist isn’t something you turn on and off. My wedding photography and my art are the same thing – it’s just the experience of living. As such I love to make a couple’s big day that extra bit special.
New from February 2014 is for every wedding day I’m booked to capture I will create a unique work of art that will become one of my signed limited edition prints that I exhibit and sell. Each of these works of art is limited to a small edition of just 20 prints. I regularly hold exhibitions of my fine art photography and sell my prints online.
These photographs aren’t wedding photos, but are a creative essence of the wedding day. They can be a landscape captured on my way to the wedding, a detail that captures my eye on the day or shot on the way home. My selected image is edited and printed on Hahnemuhle Photorag fine art paper. This is a 308g.s.m heavy art paper, with a fibrous finish. The paper softens the image and mutes the colours giving a watercolour feel to the final image. Each print is signed and numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity. For every wedding couple I add that extra special unique finish of hand toning parts of the image using the finest artist watercolours.
Here are a couple of my works that have been sold on the prestigious SaatchiArt.
